He had got the knowledge of political science and other subjects from Brihaspati, the guru of the gods (Devas), and Sukracharya, the guru of demons(Asuras). The Hindu mythology tells a fascinating legend of the fierce battle of Durga with Mahishasur, a demon who had a boon from Lord Shiva to not be defeated by any man or deity. Using his power and boon, Mahishasur   defeated gods and toppled out Indra, and spread the reign of his atrocity.   To get rid of Mahishasur and his atrocity, all gods headed to Brahma, and Brahma led them to Lord Shiva and Vishnu.
