To Whom You Support, Indra Putra or Surya Putra

In Ramayana, Vali and Sugriva were brothers. Vali was son of Indra and Sugriva was son of Surya. Their mother was a monkey called Aruni. Vali was elder. Over confusion, their brotherhood got converted into hostility, Vali and evicted Sugriva. Vali was very valiant and vigor. He was invincible in any face to face battle. He was capable to kill Ravana and his army alone. Vali had kept Ravana in his armpit for six months when Ravana had tried to disrupt his penance. On Ravana`s request, Vali had released him from this pang. Vali was given a boon that he would absorb half the strength of the enemy facing him.

In the quest of Sita, Rama and Laxman met with Sugriva. They became friends. Sugriva promised Rama to help him in locating Sita. He also narrated his story with Rama. Rama promised him to help him to get it return his lost prestige and Share from his brother Vali. They planned to kill Vali. It was not possible for anyone to kill Vali by facing him. Rama sent an arrow from his hiding and killed Vali. Dying Vali asked to Rama- “why you have killed me from the hidings, it is not a Dharma for a warrior. If you would have told me to locate Sita, I would have done it easily.” Rama could not give clear answers to the questions of Vali. At last, Vali instructed his army and his son Angad to help Rama to search Sita.

In Mahabharata, Karna and Arjun were brothers. Both were from Kunti. Karna was son of Surya and Arjun was son of Indra. Karna was elder. Due to labyrinth of their birth, both were unaware about their brotherhood. They lived in hostility. Karna was invincible, if the curse was not imposed on him. He had more prowess than Arjun. Karna had strength and skill to kill all five Pandavas alone. By proper guidance of Krishna, and due to curse, Karna was killed by Arjun in the battle. Karna was unarmed when he was arrowed to death by Arjun.

We can observe from both the epics that Vishnu supported the weaker side. In Rama incarnation, he supported Surya-Putra, Sugriva. And in Krishna incarnation, he supported Indra-putra, Arjun. This is law of Karma. What you have done, you need to nullify it, and you need to balance it. The same Vali, took the birth as hunter in Krishna incarnation, and arrowed in the sole of Krishna in the same fashion, from his hiding,  mistaken as a bird. Krishna sacrificed his body and left for Vaikunth, his eternal abode.
