The reason why 108 is considered sacred in Hinduism

A group of people visited a temple and circumambulated it for 108 times. Then, they approached a temple priest.  He gave them a 108 beads chaplet and recommended them to chant it daily for 108 times for attaining the blessings of happiness, peace, prosperity and spirituality. Why for 108 times…?

The number 108 is divisible of 9. Not only number 108 but also those numbers which fall in table 9 are considered auspicious in Hinduism. Yes, of course, the number 108 has a prominent place. The summation of the digits of the numbers of table 9 always remains 9.  E.g.  9*7=63 (6+3=9), 9*5=45 (4+5=9) , 9*16=144 (1+4+4=9) etc. This reinforces that the number 9 has a significant place in the Metaphysics. Let us dig deeper.

The human fetus lives in the mother`s womb for 9 months (36 weeks). This specific time period (9 months) of the fetus in the mother`s womb is given by nature to the human being only, not to any other creatures. The body, in which we live, has 9 doors (eyes, ears, nose, mouth, anus and genital).

The biggest epic, the Mahabharata contains 18 chapters, the Mahabharata war lasts for 18 days. There were total 18 armies in this battle - 11 from Kauravas and 7 from Pandavas. The Bhagawat Gita emerged in the midst of the battlefield of Kurukshetra for the welfare of the whole humanity contains 18 chapters.  Pandu had the family of 9 members (Pandu, Kunti, Madri and 4 children from Kunti including Karna, and 2 from Madri).

Yudhishthira gambled away everything in 18th game. Jarasandha triumphed Mathura, the city of Lord Krishna, in the 18th attack.  Bhishma was invincible in the battlefield for 9 days. No one had prowess and brawn to overthrow Bhishma except Krishna, who had taken the oath of not lifting the weapons against anyone in the war. At the end of 9th day, Bhishma revealed the secret of his death to Pandavas, and on the 10th day, he was killed deceivably.

Pandavas ruled over Hastinapura for 36 (3+6=9)years after the Mahabharata war. The number of kings of snakes has mentioned is 9, the Nag. One of the kings of snakes, Takakshat, bites Prikshit, the grandson of Arjun, to death.

In the astrology, there are the 9 planets and 12 houses. The multiplication of 12*9 is 108 (1+0+8=9). There are 27 (2+7=9)Nakshatra. These Nakshatra are the wives of Chandra, the moon. The moon is considered the deity of the mind in the astrology. The silver metal is associated with the moon, which has atomic weight 108 (107.8682).

According to Ayurveda, there are 108 pressure points in the body, where consciousness and flesh intersect to give life to the living being. A healthy heart pulsates 72 (7+2=9) times in a minute. 108 degrees Fahrenheit is the internal temperature at which the human body's vital organs begin to fail from overheating.  Therefore, the number 108 is considered good for mind and destiny (astrology).

In Hinduism, there are 18 Puranas and 108 Upanishads (Maybe more, but principally considered 108), S. Radhakrishnan, considers 18 principal Upanishads. The shape of the earth is an oblate spheroid, which makes 360 (3+6+0=9) degree. Vishnu and Lord Shiva have 1008 names. Sanskrit is the classical language of Indians and the liturgical language of Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. It is also one of the 22 official languages of India, contains 54 (5+4=9) alphabets.

The Sri Yantra is very auspicious in Hinduism, and it is considered the harbinger of both prosperity and spirituality. Each triangle has 180 degrees. The Sri Yantra is made with the interjection of 4 upward and downward triangles. Total 9 triangles. The upward triangle is for Purusha(Shiva), the male, and the downward is for Prakriti (Shakti), the female. Hence, the Sri Yantra is a combination of Shiva (Spirituality) and Shakti (Prosperity).

There are 54 intersections in it, where three lines intersect. Each intersection has masculine (Shiva) and feminine (Shakti) qualities. 54 times 2 equals 108. Thus, there are 108 points that define the Sri Yantra as well as the human body. Hence, the number 108 is best suited for the body as well as prosperity.

The age of adulthood, casting a vote and applying for a job is decided by the government of India is 18 (1+8=9) years. The RamNavmi and NavDurga festivals last for 9 days. There are 10 incarnations of lord Vishnu. 9 incarnations are completed. The 10th incarnation, the Kalki avatar, is for the destruction.

The Sikh tradition has a mala of 108 knots tied in a string of wool, rather than beads. The Chinese Buddhists and Taoists use a 108 bead mala. Chinese astrology says that there are 108 sacred stars. Some ring a bell 108 times to celebrate a new year. The first manned space flight lasted in the space for 108 minutes on April 12, 1961 (by Yuri Gagarin, a Soviet cosmonaut).

All the above numbers are called the Harshad number, “the great joy”, which is an integer divisible by the sum of its digits. The individual numbers 1, 0, and 8 represent one thing, nothing, and everything (infinity). We have observed from above description that 9 is an eternal indestructible number, which resembles the characteristics of the spirit.

Bhagavad Gita (2.17) says -  “That which pervades the entire body, know it to be indestructible. No one can cause the destruction of the imperishable spirit.” Hence, number 9 and its multitudes are considered the best-suited numbers for the spirituality, the knowledge of the spirit. And the person who knows the self, there is nothing in this world for him to be known.

The number 108 or the multiples of 9 represents the indestructible supply of health, wealth, destiny, love, career, happiness and spirituality. It is very logical to consider it a sacred number in Hinduism.

Vaastu and the Geometrical Journey of Life

Mr. Sharma lives in a fabulous Banglow  in a posh area along with his wife and two offspring. He has a glamorous job, hence no issue from the financial front. But he constantly looks frazzled, tensed, stressed, depressed and dejected, and has always some tussle and clashes with his wife for no reason. Despite all the luxuries, job, kids, education, he is not living his live in peace, ecstasy, healthy and harmony. He contacted to a VastuShastri. Might be problem with the Vastu of your home, it need to be corrected, the first response he got from VastuShastri. What is the basis of Vastu, why it is so significant to bring happiness , peace and harmony in the family ?

Vastu Shastra is a very old Indian science of Architecture. The sages and rishis of yore created Vastu Shastra for the wellbeing of the entire civilization. In those days, the members of a joint family used to be content, prosperous and happy. But, today, despite the nuclear families, peace and happiness remains a far cry. This science, after propounding the rules of construction, goes to prove that by constructing properly our buildings, villages, towns, cities, shops, offices, factories and industries we can make ourselves flourishing.

The Vastu Shastra works on the knowledge of the geometry of cosmos. According to the structure of the cosmos, we give shape, direction and arrange the upholstery of our home to bring the happiness, peace and harmony in the family. This is one technique of external arrangement to gain the internal peace. The direction plays a very vital role in Vastu.  The direction has been dedicated to different Indian mythological gods. East is dedicated to Indra and the Sun. Indra is king of gods and responsible to bring rain, the fresh water. The Sun rises in the east, go through south and set in the west. South is dedicated to Yama, Dakshineshwar Kali and Ancestors.  Yama is god of death and son of Sun. He keeps the accounts of everyone`s Karma, and he can neither be injustice nor favorable with everyone. He is a cosmic Judge.  Both Yama and Kali are the embodiment of the tempestuous and take lives of others. It is believed that, after death, our ancestors go to south, the realm of Yama. That s why, all our rituals related to our ancestors, we perform facing ourselves towards south. These rituals are performed to get our ancestors released from the realm of Yama and take rebirth to repay their Karma. The place where our ancestors live is called Pitr or put. Due to this reason, the crematoriums are also kept in the south of the village and city.

West is dedicated to Varuna,  the king of sea, and Vayu .The fresh water carried by river and rivulets is emptied  in sea, and the water of sea is salty, is the indication of drained out. Laxmi came out by churning of ocean. Laxmi is also known as Samundra Putri, the daughter of sea. The sea store itself a prodigious of wealth viz. Fish, Salt, Petroleum etc. we get from sea. Indra goes from east to west to take Laxmi back in the form of Sachi to  Indralok with the help of gods . Laxmi is known as Chanchala, the fickle one. When Indra becomes vituperative, then shattered Laxmi come back to her father, Varuna,  in the west. North is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Kuber.  Lord Shiva lives in Kailash Mountain clad with white snow, meditating under the Banyan tree facing south. Pole star is also in the north. All the things mentioned in North are stable and permanent viz. the Banyan tree, which does not allow any other plant to grow near it, and root comes from up and goes down, snow, pole star. When people die, they are laid down their head facing north. So that, they (soul)  should reach to the realm of Lord Shiva, the permanency.
Scientifically, the magnetic waves flows from North Pole to South Pole. The pran remains hidden in the brain for sometimes even after death of the body, by putting the head north, it get released easily due to the magnetic force.

The Northeast  is known as Eshanya, ruled by Shiva , is the most auspicious corner.  This is the  meeting point of freshness(Indra) and permanency(Lord Shiva). Southeast is the meeting point of Yama and Sun, and both are embodiment of fire. Hence, Southeast is ruled by the fire deity – Agni (Energy Generating). Southwest, the meeting point of Varuna and ancestors, known as Pitru/Nairutya, ruled by ancestors (History). Northwest, the meeting point of Yavu and Kuber. Northwest- ruled by Vayu, the god of winds  (Advertisement). This corner is also called Bhandar corner, the larder one.  The sea produce wealth and Kuber is the financer of the gods , so the meeting point is called Bhandar corner, the larder one. Center- ruled by Brahma, the creator of the universe (Desire). The open sky influences greatly. We can get the effect of terrestrial-energies uninterruptedly. But the buildings prove a barrier to the effects of open sky. Therefore, the importance of roofs or lawns gets emphasized, which is not considered tantamount to the courtyard.  Traditionally every house in India used to have an open space (Court Yard) in the center of the house. It provided the dwellers not only the open sky but also sunlight and cross-ventilation of air.  In the new construction of building, open space, the courtyard is missing. The yagna or family worship used to perform in the courtyard,  so that, the vibration of the Yagna/Worship goes to all the rooms equally. The Vastu works on the five elements viz.  Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Space, which are associated with our five senses. This is one kind of effort to control our senses by making connection with external sources.

From the above descriptions, Northeast is suited for worship, east is for bathroom, Southeast is for Kitchen, South is for doing the duty, the Karma, Southwest is suitable room for old person in the family. West where sun sets, tired one. Northwest is suited to keep your earnings. North is for permanence and good health. These provide a perfect sequence for the humanity ,  from wake-up to bed. We wake-up and pray God in Northeast . Fresh ourselves , now we are in the east, take food  in Southeast. Go for the  duty means we are  in South direction. Learn from history, not to be injustice while taking the fruit of the  duty, this is Southwest. At the close of the duty ,we take the wages of the whole day work, now we are in West. The earned one are kept in Bhandar, the larder, now we have reached to  Northwest. Now it is time to retire for the bed. In dreamless sleep, we talk to our soul, the permanent one means we have reached to the North. Hence, we complete our  complete journey covering all the directions.  After sleep we get  morning, means one more innings of life to play the game of life flawlessly with well-cooperated  with the natural law. The similar is true for the concept of rebirth, to get one more opportunity to repay our Karma.

Lord Shiva, the ascetic and Yogi , close his eyes and peeps-up inside and incinerates all the internal vices if any. His eyes are closed and his countenance is serene, and sitting in meditative pose, not disturbed by any external upheaval. And, if someone tries to disturb His meditation and internal peace , He incinerates them to ashes. He is invariably equitable  towards the external appearance. He does not make any difference between poison or nectar, Asura or gods, palace or crematorium etc, because , he is internally so strong that anything external can not disturb his eternal peace, ecstasy and serenity. He is getting disturbed by nothing, even though He is meditating in crematorium. He is the embodiment of the soul, the pure, pious and eternal.  The message comes for us to be internally so strong that any external upheaval does  not make  any disturbance of your internal life. Those persons always remains happy who live internal to external. No one can disturb you without your permission. No goal is unreachable for the internal driven person.

Marriage, Why A Riddle!

Marriage is pious bond. It is considered a reunion of two pure souls. It is devout, because the married couples are entitled to copulate and procreate the progeny for the future generation, which is accepted by the society.  Different types of marriages have been introduced to us, viz. Brahma Vivah, Daiva Vivah, Arsha Vivah, Prajapatya Vivah, Gandharva Vivah, Asura Vivah, Rakshasa Vivah, and Paishacha Vivah.
The existence of different categories of marriages is on the basis of the material nature and social status of the individuals. The law has been constituted to maintain the marriages. These laws differs on the basis of religions, region and time, and on some part, on the basis of caste, creed and cult also. The division of the works in the family took place under these laws to maintain the harmony and ostracize the conflicts in the family and  society. The initial law which is known as tradition and customs now a day was a patriarch. The traditions and customs had been created by keeping in the mind of the capacity, skill and the security aspect of the male and female to run the family snag free. That law was expedient and might be apposite for that group of people, place and time. One of the primeval law book is Manusmriti, which was compiled be Rishi Manu. Some of the orthodox Hindu followers deem this book as a religious book, but I personally, could not find any quality in this book to be called a religious book.  It was merely a law book at that time to run the family and society. This book has distorted and misguided the family and society a lot. There are various Smritis (Law books) like Manusmritis. Unfortunately, even in these days, these crackpot books are being followed by some of the conventional people, which is illegal in the eyes of modern laws on the land. These books were expedient rather than principled.

The duty of male was to earn livelihood for the family. And, the duty  of female was confined to take care of the domestic work. Wife used to consider her husband as Devta, means who gives. They keep fasting and worship gods for her husband`s longevity. The primal profession of the primordial people was hunting and agriculture, and for both the professions, the physical brawn is required. Hence male suited for the outside work. Female can perform the domestic work with more ease, and can take care of the offspring.  Naturally, the chaste of male is stronger and waist is weaker than female one.  The chaste is the embodiment of the valiant and vigor. Waist is very important where, there is work of frequent stoop and up, and we can experience the same in the domestic work. The progenitor found that the fasting was suitable for female, and male brings the gift for the wife on that day. This tradition and custom helps to make more bondage between husband and wife. Husband reckons that my wife is praying to gods for my longevity, so he keeps his moral and ethics intact. And husband brings gifts and livelihood, so she thinks that he is worthy to worship. At the time of marriage the father of bride used to give some financial support for initial set-up to  the bride and groom according to his capacity. There was no overt demand for the dowry.  The male was free to have more the one wife, but the same was not true for the female.  It was an unrequited custom, where there was merely the male domination. The definition of aforesaid statement kept changing, and now, this draconian tradition has taken the form of a monster. The male started understanding the female as subservient. Dowry was being demanded overtly, without considering the capacity of the giver. Consequential, the atrocity took place in the family and society.

Now the time has changed, and the statute should be changed according to the time, place, and people. The law on earth has been changed by taking the consideration of the above atrocity and violence and injustice in the family and society. The new law has given more importance to the matriarch rather than patriarch. This is also not a balanced law which can appease the both male and female, and can do the justice. But, the new law is overtly the female oriented. Here, we can mention few sections of IPC 1860 and Acts related to woman to make this point more understandable.

Few Acts related to women:--

Some section of Indian Panel Code, 1860 related to woman:
354. Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty
354A. Assault or use Criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe her
498A. Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty
304B. Dowry death
375. Rape
312. Causing miscarriage
509. Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman

These are some few laws and acts, I have mentioned here. In fact there are so many laws, which give direct haven to woman. But I did not get even a single similar laws which could be direct related to man and can give haven to man.

We have two laws; the old law, the tradition, and the new law, the constitution of the country. One gives more significance to the male and autonomy for the male domination family and society. And, the modern law, the female oriented law gives autonomy for the female domination family and society. Despite the stringent laws; the divorce, conflict, stress and domestic violence have increased drastically. Predominantly, these kinds of cases are taking place in the middle and higher middle class family. Even today, our marriage ceremonies take place according the old traditions and customs. And the law on the land suggests running the family and society according to the modern law. The pussyfoot has been given to us by these laws. Male is pulled by the old draconian tradition and custom and females are pulled by the modern laws.  And, the both the avowed laws are converse to each other. Whenever the conflict takes place in the family and society, both male and female talks about their laws and facility have been sanctioned to them. The forces of both the parties work in the opposite direction, which create stress and the marriage culminate with break-up, which directly effects to the offspring. It suggests that the relationship in future would be more fragile. Sir Isaac Newton did not get married, due to the inexorable conflicts between his parents; he did not want to waste his time in the petty conflicts.

The marriage has become a compromise, a negotiation rather than a strong bond of two souls. The laws are in place, but the present laws are lopsided laws, which are bound to create imbalance, then wobble and then collapse.  The demand of the time is to make a balanced law, which can help to create an unprejudiced family and society.  Moreover, to sustain any relation, the internal laws of the individuals are more important than the external laws.  The externals laws, the constitutional one, are for those who do not possess the internal laws, the moral and ethics.

Many to One Mapping

The Ganga, the longest river in India, originates from Gangotri, in Himalaya. At the place of origin, the stream of Ganga is scanty. At the point of her origin, it can be controlled and diverted into different direction also. From the origin place to Rishikesh, where Ganga touch the earth; the Ganga is clean, pure and pious. The Ganga is known by different names viz. Bhagirathi, Jahnavi, Vishnupadi, Padma etc. Despite the different names and places she passes, she remains the same. But when she comes in the touch of human beings, she becomes polluted. Her intention is to provide water, irrigation etc for the welfare of the human beings on the earth. She descended on the earth to make the human beings pure and pious and wipe out their sins, and to provide one more opportunity to indulge in good Karma. But the human beings, out of their selfish nature, they have made the Ganga polluted. It is well known that only source or means are not enough to get the set goal achieved; but the efforts of the aspirants are mandatory.  At last, irrespective of her names and shapes, she merges with sea (Bay of Bengal) at Ganga Sagar.
Like Ganga, many other rivers around the globe, originate with small stream for the welfare of the humanity, and merge with ocean/sea. The waters of rivers do not make any difference of their users. The water of the river quenches the thirst to anyone who uses it, irrespective of caste, creed, religion, region, cult etc.  It does not matter whatever the name we can give to the rivers, whence it originates; which area it passes. The constituents of the water does not change, its chemical composition remain H2O only. It has been left on human being, whether we want to keep the water clean or polluted. Clean water gives us healthy life, and polluted water spread the infection and even can snatch our life.
The similar is true for our religions also. We have around 10-13 major religions and many other cults in the world. When we trace back to the origin of the religions, we find the same intention, the same source, the same process is working behind every religion. The purpose of every religion and cult is to remove the vices from within. When we observe the spearhead and progenitor of any religion, we find the initial path, process and source are the same; that is the meditation with pure heart, and they got revelation, at different time and different places.
As we have physical perception, the seers/prophets have spiritual vision. They can see what we cannot see through our physical perception. The sages/prophets are men of direct vision. Chronologically, let us shed some light on the different religions. In Sanatan religion (The Hindu); the seers of yore meditated over, and got the direct revelations of Vedas and Upanishads through the out breath of God. The Veda and the principal Upanishads are called Shruti, which can be heard, which can be conceived. Veda means the knowledge par excellence.  There is no beginning or end of the knowledge, and hence the eternal religion (Sanatan Dharma) took place, which has no beginning and no end. The followers of Veda are called Vendatist .The Hindu is misnomer for the Sanatam Dharma. Hindu is a geographical definition, not a name of religion.
In Jainism, the spearhead of this religion are also called Jina, means conquerors of internal vices through introspection and meditation. And, the followers of Jina are called Jain. In Buddhism, Lord Buddha teaches to masses to attain the Buddha, the enlightened one, by meditating and removing the internal vices.
Jesus Christ lived in obscurity from the age of twelve until he entered into public life, at the age of thirty. It is said, in those years, he learned meditation and the divine knowledge got revealed to him. By His hidden life Jesus Christ teaches the followers to learn holiness and wisdom before teaching to others. By living in obscurity, he teaches to fight against the vanity and vices. He did some miracles on the wish of God to strengthen the belief of the existence of God. He took his birth miraculously without father intervention, at that time, when the atrocity was on the top in Jerusalem. This historical incident took place around 2500 years back. Jesus got crucified for the sake of others, and one more, the biggest (in term followers) religion, the Christianity took place.

Prophet Muhammad adopted the practice of meditating at secluded place for several weeks every year in a cave on Mount Hira near Mecca. During one of his visits to Mount Hira, the angel Gabriel appeared to him in the year 610 CE, around 1400 years back, and the holy Quran got revealed to him in the month of Ramadan. He prophesized the masses, and one more religion ISLAM, means peace acquired by submitting your will to the Almighty God, took place.

Guru Nanak Dev (1469–1539), was the founder of the religion of Sikhism and the first of the ten Sikh Gurus. Nanak stressed that God must be seen from "the inward eye", or the "heart", of a human being: devotees must meditate to progress towards enlightenment. Guru Nanak Dev emphasized the revelation through meditation, as its rigorous application permits the existence of communication between God and human beings. Sikhs, the learner, are expected to embody the qualities of a "Sant-Sipāhī"—a saint-soldiers, dedicate themselves towards the security to the weaker in the society.
We can go on and on to talk about other religions and cults which can give us the same purpose to remove the vices from our life and focus on good deeds, the karma. There is no any other purpose of any religions rather than the spirituality, the knowledge of the spirit. The religion is not the destination; it is a way and means to reach the destination, the spirituality. It does not matter, where you are, and whence you started, but it does matter a lot that where you want to go. The progenitors of the religions had only one purpose, the welfare of the humanity, without any second thought out of that. We have observed that there is one source, the Meditation with pure heart and one destination, the Spirituality.
The spirit inside us has the same constituent, like water in river. It is up to us to keep it cleaned or make it malign. The various religious scriptures are on the phase of the earth. Any one of these religious scriptures is enough to make the spirit pure, pious and clean. Now volition is ours, whether we want entangled in the social concept of the religious stratification or natural concept of oneness of God.

Time Management, An Illusion

The time management courses are very popular. In the organization, they teach their staff how to manage the time. I had always a dither in my mind; can we really manage the time? Time is eternal, Primeval, Ever-existing entity. It will not change or linger for anyone. It will keep moving with the same speed, whether we divide 60 minutes in one hour or 100 minutes in one hour. It does not make any changes in its distinctiveness. At one side, we say “Time and Tide wait for none”, and at other side we talk about the time management. The tide in the ocean takes place, due to the gravitational pull of the moon. And, the moon is also the embodiment of the time. The Hindu and Islamic calendar is based on the lunar calculations. The Gregorian calendar (English Calendar) is based on the Sun. We calculate the time on the earth, on the basis of the movements of these planets. It means, to manage the time, we need to manage the movements of these planets. Can we manage the movements of these planets?

Let us delve into deeper. In fact, the time is not decided on the basis of the movement of the planets. The movements of these planets are on the basis of the time. The time is eternal, not the planets. The planets are bound to dissolve one day, because these are created one. And, the created one are destined to dissolve. The existence of the time is primeval, and will continue to exist, whether the planets or other creatures exist or not. It does not make any changes in the nature of the time.  The science also accepts that there is a certain life of these planets. It appears that everything is being managed according to the time. Then, how it would be possible to manage the time? This is simply an illusion, and it indicates towards the sparse of our understanding the nature of the time, when we talk about the time management.

Of course, the time cannot be managed, but activities can be managed according to the time. In fact, it should not be the time management; rather it should be the activity management. Both the successful and futile person has the same time. But the successful persons manage their activities successfully according to the time. On the contrary, the futile persons waste their time in the illusion of time management rather than activity management. In western countries, there is concept of Day Light Savings. According to the winter and summer, they make changes in their clock.  By doing this, no changes is taking place in the movement of the planets. In this way too, we are trying to manage the activities according to the time.
If the time can be managed, the why we should be in hasten, and bemoan on the wastage of the time. Let us wipe out the illusion of the time management and concentrate on the activity management.

Nature, The Living Entity

The earth contains 29% land and 71% water, out of that, only 3% is potable. All the rivers and rivulets carry the water from the afield and put into the ocean. The test of the sea/ocean water is salty. The mountain provides the stability of the earth and prevent from the earthquake. As babies we are approximately 75 to 80% water and as we grow older this percentage decreases until the percentage is reduced to approximately 60 to 65% for men and 50 to 60% for women. The human brain is about 85% water and our bones are between 10 to 15% water. The human body also contains almost the similar percentage of water in our body. All the veins simulate the river and rivulets. Our piddle is also salty. The most of the mountains, whence the rivers originates clad with white snow. The color of our brain is also white, whence all the thought generates. The bone helps us to strengthen our body like the mountain does for the earth.

   According to the Aitareya Upanishad,
The Spirit thought, "Lo, these are the worlds. Let me now create the guardians of the worlds. From the waters themselves, he drew forth the person and gave him a shape.
Yea, the Spirit brooded over Him and of Him thus brooded over the mouth broke forth, as when an egg is hatched and breaketh; from the mouth speech, from speech fire. The nostrils were separated out; from the nostrils breath, from breath air. The eyes were separated out; from the eyes sight, from the sight the sun. The ears were separated out; from the ear hearing and from hearing the quarters of space. The skin was separated out; from the skin the hairs, from the hairs plants and trees. The heart was separated out; from the heart the mind and from the mind, the moon. The naval was separated out; from the naval, the outbreath, from the outbreath death. The generative organ was separated out; from it semen, from semen water.
Fire became Speech and entered into the mouth; Air became Breath and entered into the nostrils; the Sun became Sight and entered into the eyes; the Quarters became Hearing and entered into the ears; Herbs of healing and the plants and trees became Hairs and entered into the skin; the Moon became Mind and entered into the heart; Death became the outbreath, entered the naval; water became semen entered the generative organ.
Now let us understand its analogy with our body and its constructions.  “God created the life out of water and gave him shape”; Science also agreed that life emerged from the water as a form of Amoeba. “Fire became Speech and entered into the mouth”; if the fire is used with care, it provides us delicious food else convert everything into ashes. Similarly, if the speeches are used in control, then it would make foe to friend; else it put everyone into the fire of hostility. It is truly said “The spoken word rules the world”. Word wars, religious wars are the vivid examples of the unbridled speeches. Even, the division of Indo-Pak was also the result of the fire of speech.
“Air became Breath and entered into the nostrils”. Air is our Pran, the life. We cannot see air, but we cannot ignore the presence of the air. Pran is not visible, but it is there. We cannot see God and Soul with physical eyes, but the presence cannot be ignored.  “The Sun became Sight and entered into the eyes”, the sun provides the light for the universe and the eyes give the physical light for our life. Scientifically, offering water to the sun in the morning, help to increase the eye sight. The centralized ray pass through a glass and falls on the paper, the paper burns out. Also, the continuous starting at a point on the paper through our eyes, the paper starts burning. We cannot see in the night , it means , our eyes requires sunlight to make the things visible or similar kind of artificial light which has the same characteristics , the light and heat. The sun follows the particular direction, so, in order to see something we need put our eyes in the direction of the object.
“The Quarters became Hearing and entered into the ears”, we can hear from any direction without following the direction. “Herbs of healing and the plants and trees became Hairs and entered into the skin”, the similarities between hairs and plants are so obvious. The plants keep growing, even though we prune the plants. Hair also grows even on shaving and cuttings. The pruned braches of the tree can be implanted. Now, the hair implant is becoming famous as well. “The Moon became Mind and entered into the heart”; the moon is considered a fickle planet, and the mind also do not remain the same all the time. The mind is so related to moon that the lunatic which is the mental condition, originated from the word lunar. The gravitational pull of moon cause the ripple and tide in the sea/ocean. The forces of mind also make a prodigious effect on our life. The gravitational pull of the moon on our mind makes us fickle. As we know that the human brain is about 85% water. And the gravitational pull of moon is more puissant on water. By meditation, the mind can be stabilized, like Lord Shiva made the moon stable on His head. The stable moon on the head of Lord Shiva is the symbolism of the stability of the mind of the yogis. Scientifically, there is positive effect on our mind on full moon, and, on new moon the demon power gets activated, and we are aware that our physical mind is prone to negativity.
“Death became the outbreath, entered the naval”; the fetus is connected with the naval of the mother in the womb. The naval has become the life sustainer since the inception of life. If the air go out and do not come back to naval, means, we got disconnected with the life sustainer, the naval, hence demise. In Ramayana, Rama was immolating the heads and limbs of Ravana, but of no use. His heads and limbs were getting connected automatically. At last, on the suggestion of Bibhisan, the youngest brother of Ravana, Rama arrowed at the naval of Ravana, hence Ravana died. This is the symbolism of aforesaid truth from Upanishad.
“Water became semen entered the generative organ”; the first life got created from water, and the semen is a form of water, contains the potential to create new life. It means, man carries the original seed, not woman. The responsibility of giving the birth of male/female is of man, not of woman. The medical science has proved it 3 decades ago. But, the Rishis of yore had this knowledge since the time immemorial. If we keep some water in a bottle for few days, germs can be seen in the water. It indicates that the origin of life is water.
In our body, there are good bacteria and bad bacteria. Good bacteria are needed for the body to keep it healthy, happy and harmonious. On the contrary, the bad bacteria deteriorate our health. To regain a good health, we need to kill the bad bacteria by giving some treatment. Similarly, the nature would certainly take her step to kill bad bacteria in the form of selfish people, who do not care about the nature. History has shown an inordinate evidence of the natural calamities, are the reciprocals of the behavior shown by the human being towards the nature.  The nature wants to foster the good bacteria, the good people, who really care for the nature, as they care for their own body. But, it should not be of any surprise that some good bacteria have to lose their lives in the process of the treatment.
The God has created the nature and the creature to help each-other to thrive and prosper together.  It manifest that the nature is a living entity. A Biologist, E.L. Wilson, worked on all the known creatures to find their utility to ecology.  Smaller or bigger, all the creatures, directly or indirectly, helping in maintaining the ecology, except one creature. That creature is no one but human being. And, God do not create the rubbish. It suggests that the purpose of human being is different. The human being`s purpose is to take care of the nature and advance themselves towards the spirituality, the knowledge of the spirit.
We have observed an inordinate resemblance between human body and the nature. We are inextricably bound to each-other. Making any damage to the nature, directly or indirectly, we are making destruction to our self.

The Team Of The Self

We are not mind and body , we are soul , which is unborn, eternal, ever-existing, and primeval .Like, we have home , car ,computer etc.,  we have mind and body to use it as an instrument to achieve the paramount of our aspirations. Body looks for luxury , mind is prone to negativity , and both the conditions are pernicious , if it has not been fully controlled . The body has been constructed with five elements viz. Air, Water, Earth , Ether(space) and Fire. These are simply the chemical composition , which are bound to dissolve. These five elements are related to our five senses viz. Touch , Taste, Smell, Hearing and Vision respectively, which stimulate our five action organs ,Hands, Genitals, Anus, Ear  and Feet . The senses are the media to acquire the knowledge and experience .The unbridlled senses are abominable and insidious.
The brain is very puissant organ in human body ,it contains  10,0000 millions neurons . The mind has unfathomable wherewithal .  The most of the mind power remains unused . According to one research , the human use only 10% of his mind in average , rest remains inactive . It shows that we have prodigious of potential in our brain , we need not to go anywhere to hire it , rather we need to learn how to unleash it . The incessant thought keep flowing in the mind . In average , approximately 70,000 thoughts are produced in a day . It is not exaggerated to say that our mind is a thought producing machine. We can not stop the flow of the thoughts , but we can divert it according to our choice . No one can refrain from doing something, not even for a moment , but options are safe with us , what to do and what not to do .
The average weight  of brain is 1400 gm or 3 pounds . Einstein`s  brain weight was 1230 gm , even lesser than the average weight . It means , the capacity of the brain can not be anticipated on the basis of weight and size of the brain
The brain is enormously costly to the rest of the body . In terms of oxygen and nutrient consumption , it can require up to 20% of the body`s energy , more than the other organs , despite making up only 2% of the human body by weight .

We have conscious and sub-conscious mind in our brain . The conscious mind is logical and argumentative . The good news is that ,  it has the option to select or reject or supersede the thoughts . We can shift the paradigm by shifting our thoughts . In forest, one can not get the plant and fruit according to one wish , rather one need to adjust oneself according to the plant and fruit available .In order to get the desired fruit and orchard , the forest to be domesticated and demur by fencing it and sowing the viable seed. The similar thing happens in our mind , if we do not select the seed of the thought prudently , the mind would be a forest and we would be culminated with the wild ephithet . No one to be incriminated for the good or bad happens on us . It is our thought what makes us . The frontal cortex in human brain helps us to imagine and visualize , which is absent in other creatures . We are blessed with this , so that , we can visualize the consequences before selecting any thought.
The sub-conscious mind is the re-creative faculty of the conscious mind ,responding to conscious mind`s thoughts and desires . The sub-conscious mind will go to the extreme length to fulfill the conscious mind`s desires and limitations . It is amenable to the conscious mind . Be very prudent , while impregnating the sub-conscious mind with the thought. It is like a soil , it will produce  the plant according to the seed sown with the same potential . It is neutral and innocent . Once the thought get impregnated in the sub-conscious mind , it creates vibrations in the body , which whet us for the action , the action creates result , and the result is the destiny . It means , by selecting the thought gingerly , the destiny can be selected . We are blessed with the free will , hence  regulating  the thought is not out of control . Later or sooner , we will be blessed with the fruit of our thoughts.
                                                 Thought  -> Action -> Result -> Destiny
The body is superior to the physical materials ,The working senses are superior to the body , the mind is  higher than the senses. Intelligence is still higher than the mind , and the soul is even higher than the intelligence. The senses should be controlled with the mind , and the mind should be controlled with the intelligence . The five senses are the team members and the mind is the team lead . Remember , the mind is merely a lead , not the owner.  The mind is the best performer , if it is kept under control with the strict regulations to maximize the output of our life , else worst of the destroyer. If the five senses fight with each-other , hence create imbalance .
By following the aforesaid hierarchy , the sense of balance can be established in life . And , the second name of happy , healthy and  harmonious  life is BALANCE.
