Kali Dancing on the Body of Shiva

Kali is an unbridled energy and lord shiva is a dormant soul. Kali is fearful, ferocious, naked and bloodthirsty. She wants to destroy everything. After killing the demons, for what she was invoked, she becomes uncontrolled destroyer and bloodthirsty. She is the embodiment of the nature. Demons desecrate the nature, and the nature in the form of Kali, destroys them back. Her color is dark black (Kali), the way black colors absorb all others colors in it, similarly, Kali absorbs all the cosmic energy in her. Her teeth are shown in white, this signifies her internal purity. Her red blood stained tongue signifies her omnivorous nature, she is not going to spare anything, if she is not given her due respect and heed. Her three eyes are the three worlds and three times (past present and future), means, everything in her control and she, herself, out of the control of anything and anybody.

She has become violent, she is looking for her place and recognition. There is not any known powerful being, who can absorb the valiant energy of Kali to pacify her. She has become totally uncontrolled and fierce.  Chopping the head of the male being, whoever is trying to control  her. The whole cosmos is on the threshold of peril.

She is looking someone powerful who can bear her energy. Lord Shiva is only an option, but He is  a dormant soul, does not want to wake up from His deep slumber to be the part of the material world. Shiva is SHAV (corpse) without energy, and hence He resides in the crematorium. Kali, the energy, is incomplete and uncontrolled without Shiva. An uncontrolled energy can do nothing but destruction. For her vantage, Kali approaches crematorium, and dances on the body of Shiva to wake Him up from His deep slumber, and adopt her in Him and be the part of the world, else she threatens to destroy the whole existence.

Shiva adopts Kali (an unbridled energy) in Him, and helps to convert her from Kali, the ferocious, to Durga (one who provide safety (durg) ), and then Annapurna/Parvati (One who provides foods to all). And hence, Shiva, the SHAV, becomes Shankar, the part of the world, and Kali became a controlled energy to provide the existence of the whole being and the cosmos.
